Spring Into Fishing – Open Day

As part of our ongoing commitment to encourage more people to try angling and get more people fishing, more often, Ramsbottom Angling Association have joined forces with Bradshaw Hall Fisheries in Bolton on Saturday 20th July 2019 to support the Angling Trust’s initiative Spring Into Fishing.

Never been fishing before? No problem –  tackle, bait, instruction, day fishing licences and info on fishing clubs and places to go are all included free. Or if you’ve tried fishing already then come and learn beginner’s skills from qualified licensed angling coaches. It doesn’t matter what age or ability – everybody’s welcome.

Parents and Grandparents – bring the kids, have a go yourself and discover how fishing is a fun, exciting, cheap and healthy outdoor activity. It’s also a great excuse to enjoy the peace and quiet of nature.

To book your slot simply call or text 07513 289491.

Charlie and Zoe Take the Prizes

Today, we held our 2nd junior match of the year at Bradshaw Hall Fisheries Lake 7, where we had 8 of our juniors taking part. Once again, we split the match up into 2 sections; Section 1 Advanced Juniors and Section 2 Up and Comers.

With a decent weather forecast for a change, we were hoping for an enjoyable day on the bank. The draw some a few repeat pegs from match 1 (Charlie and Peter), with Lucy in her first ever competition drawing the ‘death peg’ (as sportingly informed by her older brother – but fortunately actually related to a different lake 😊).

The match started off fairly slowly across the whole lake, but then each person started to work out how their peg was working. Surprisingly, it varied significantly across the lake with maggot working in some areas and pellet in others – plus we had a few showers that weren’t welcome.

In Section 1 – Advanced Juniors, Charlie took the top spot with a weight of 43lb 3oz followed in second by Harry L with 12lb 13oz.

In Section 2 – Up and Comers, Zoe took first place with a weight of 34lb 12oz (individual PB), second place went to Rory with 18lb 11oz, and 3rd place was Peter with 12lb 8oz.

Well done to all who took part today especially Charlie and Zoe on their great wins 🎣🎣🎣🎣. Also, a special well done to Lucy fishing her first ever match and working hard all the way through to the very end.

Thanks to all the coaches and supporters for giving up their time to help today, much appreciated. And a special mention to Colin, who has become the clubs diving champion today 😂😂😂

Cheers

Lee (match secretary)

“Hi just like to thank all the lads that have fished the interclubs recently. We managed to retain the trophy against City Social last weekend .. like to say well done to some of our new team members Simon Ward, Liam Booth and Barry Grigg. Special thanks to Barry Unsworth and Barry Hill for standing in at late notice for the match against Tonge on Scholes’s yard. Unfortunately the place fished even more dire than usual. Our next interclub is against Breighmet anglers on their home water the Croft in Bolton on 24th June. Any angler wishing to represent club please leave message on here or text me on 07939 527854 cheers Gary.”

Tough Day’s Fishing in Match vs Tonge

Unfortunately things did not go to plan against Tonge Angling in the 1st leg of our interclub at Scholes Lane in Tottington. On what was a glorious day, the fishing was really tough as the fish were darting around everywhere but just not biting. We ended up losing the match by 8 points to 2… well done to Jake Pope and Lee Long on winning there points (full results below):

We’ve got it all to do on the second leg fellas …but fortune favours the brave.

Junior Coaching Sessions Kick Off in Style

Our Junior coaching sessions started tonight and we had a great start to the season.

We’ve had numerous children on the banks at the lido who have never fished before, which is great news. They’ve all had a bit of fun and went away with smiles on their faces.

The juniors that have attended ranged from 6 years old to 15 years old. As you can see we cater for all ages.

If you would like to come down next Thursday between 5:30 – 7:30 pm then please give Allan a call on 07956 493828 and book your place.

Juniors Perform Well at First Match

The junior’s have had a great weekend at Shatterford Lakes in Kidderminster for their first match of the season. It was a very hard days fishing on all the lakes, but was a great experience for them all. Well done to Luca, Harry, Gabby and Rory for their efforts on a very cold day. You all did wonderful!!

Shatterford Group

A big thank you to the organisers who provided a great goody bag for everyone that fished worth around £200.

Springwood Work Party – A Job Well Done!!

Some hard working lads shifted tons of stone to improve the dam path on our Springwood water today. Big thanks from Allan and Neil, we couldn’t run the club without you. A warm welcome to Dan, new member on his first working party and a real bonus for us. Thanks again and if nothing else pop down for a cuppa on Thursday nights when the junior coaching starts.

FREE Angling Trust Membership for Juniors

For all Junior RAA members – you can register for FREE membership of the Angling Trust through their website www.anglingtrust.net. If you are taking part in any of their competitions you will have to register with them beforehand. It’s not the easiest of processes, so we have put together a simple ‘How To’ guide to hopefully make it easier.

Angling Trust Application Process

Unfortunately, if you are registering more than one child then you have to complete 2 applications which will need a different email address for each or you can register over the phone (Tel 0343 5077006 – Option 1).
