Charlie and Zoe Take the Prizes

Today, we held our 2nd junior match of the year at Bradshaw Hall Fisheries Lake 7, where we had 8 of our juniors taking part. Once again, we split the match up into 2 sections; Section 1 Advanced Juniors and Section 2 Up and Comers.

With a decent weather forecast for a change, we were hoping for an enjoyable day on the bank. The draw some a few repeat pegs from match 1 (Charlie and Peter), with Lucy in her first ever competition drawing the ‘death peg’ (as sportingly informed by her older brother – but fortunately actually related to a different lake 😊).

The match started off fairly slowly across the whole lake, but then each person started to work out how their peg was working. Surprisingly, it varied significantly across the lake with maggot working in some areas and pellet in others – plus we had a few showers that weren’t welcome.

In Section 1 – Advanced Juniors, Charlie took the top spot with a weight of 43lb 3oz followed in second by Harry L with 12lb 13oz.

In Section 2 – Up and Comers, Zoe took first place with a weight of 34lb 12oz (individual PB), second place went to Rory with 18lb 11oz, and 3rd place was Peter with 12lb 8oz.

Well done to all who took part today especially Charlie and Zoe on their great wins 🎣🎣🎣🎣. Also, a special well done to Lucy fishing her first ever match and working hard all the way through to the very end.

Thanks to all the coaches and supporters for giving up their time to help today, much appreciated. And a special mention to Colin, who has become the clubs diving champion today 😂😂😂

Cheers

Team Rammy Take the Win

Whitmore East Canal was the chosen venue of City Social for the second leg of the inter-club match. Following on from our home leg on Bradshaw Fishery Lake 4, Team Rammy were trailing by 15lb 6oz, so the guys were up against it. As normal Lee ordered in some foul weather, but tried to pass it off this time as not being his fault!! The word on the street was that heavy feeding was going to be the order of the day, and so gallons of maggots were ordered in to make sure we were all prepared.

Well, it turned out that the complete opposite was to be the case, with heavy feeding killing the swim straight away. It proved to be a tough day fishing, testing everyone to their limits to work out how to get a bite, but the boys did us proud by winning the match with 199lb 15oz to City Social 118lb 14oz.

This gave Team Rammy the win by 81lb 1oz, which meant that we retain the trophy for another year by an overall weight of 66lb 11oz. Well done to Gary and his team of 10.

And a special well done to Charlie, one of our three Junior musketeers representing the club, on winning the match overall with 48lb 3oz (this lad is one to watch out for in the future).

Thanks to Tom and the anglers from City Social for once again brilliant enjoyable inter-club. See you all again next year.

A Hat-trick of Wins for Jason Wright

Saturday 18th May saw our fourth senior match of the season for the G&N Auto trophy, held on Sycamore Rowan with 10 anglers taking part. This water can be tricky venue as the fish tend to spook very easily, but there are a good few lumps to be caught so judging the right tackle and approach can be difficult.

Despite the forecast, the day proved to be quite pleasant which made a change from the previous matches!!

Results:
1st place and completing his hattrick of wins was Jason Wright with 50lb
2nd Graham Walsh 38lb 12oz
3rd Simon Ward 35lb 9oz

Well done to all who took part… Next week we take on City Social in the second leg of the interclub at Whitmore (East Canal).

Dave and Neil had a busy day (Saturday) putting wood panels in the container at Bradshaw’s getting it ready for the seasons advanced coaching sessions.

There will still be much more work to do but big thanks to these two for the work they are doing for our juniors – sure the juniors will appreciate it. If we need more help we will let you know!

Fly Tying Coaching Session

What a good evening fly tying. Tony and Gwyneth were excellent, again, and the youngsters picked up more knowledge and skills. Our Secretary got as much pleasure as the youngsters just need to get him on the water now.

Next up, on Thursday 28th February, we have got Howard Kelly (Matrix) who is going to show you how elastication of poles works and also float shotting. WE HAVE LIMITED PLACES so you must contact Lee on 07931 570581 to secure your place (this will work on a first come first serve basis).
